In 1989 Neneh Cherry ruled the airwaves, her eclectic dance masterpiece Raw Like Sushi yielding a fistful of UK chart smashes. She also caused havoc in her native America when she slagged off McDonalds and Nancy Reagan's anti-drug programme. During her second assault on the USA she collapsed with exhaustion. She tells SIMON WITTER what she can't stomach about the States.
