NO POP ICON ever came to a sadder or less regal end than the once gorgeous, gaudy "King" of rock 'n' roll, Elvis Presley. When Presley died of heart failure in the bathroom at Graceland, his Memphis mansion, aged only 42, he had suffered a terrible decline from world-challenging sex-symbol to overweight Las Vegas cabaret star, handing out sweat-soaked scarves to blue-rinsed matrons.
