Richard Davies: Mojo Rising
Barney Hoskyns, MOJO, November 1997
RICHARD DAVIES is cooped up in the Turtle Creek barn, a hallowed old recording studio haunted by ghosts of Woodstock past and present. (A picture of Muddy Waters with Levon Helm hangs from one of its walls.) The ex-Cardinal singer is finishing up a week of mixing, listening closely to a song that sounds like Wilco crossed with The High Llamas - an almost alt-country lament called 'Main Street Electrical Parade', about the attraction that recently closed down at Disneyland.
