Rocking Chair: Popular & Vital
Michael Lydon, Fusion, 24 December 1971
JAMES TAYLOR came on the jukebox in the bar last night, singing that pretty Carole King song about "Call me and I'll come running and running" etc. It was foggy outside, the bar warm but deserted. We were playing pool. Taylor's soft voice blended well with the clicks and idle conversation. Tony, who'd bought Tapestry a few days before and had put in the dime, sang along. There was a pleasant lack of urgency to the music and no genre: unlike the other tunes in the box at the Oasis, Taylor's tune was not country and western, rock 'n' roll, Motown, or r&b.
