Roy Buchanan: The Messiah Will Come Again

Colin Escott, 'Tattoed on their Tongues' (Schirmer Books), 1998

ROY BUCHANAN broke the mould. Usually the record comes out, then the articles follow, and then the concerts start selling out, and then there's a television special. With Buchanan, it was the other way around. First there were the laudatory articles, then the sell-out concerts and the first television show, and then the first album. Only gradually did it become clear that Roy Buchanan had been around the block more than once, and that what was hailed as his first album was indeed his first album, but far from his first recording.
