WHEN THE ENTRANCE to the gig is bathed in the harsh glare of high wattage floodlights like the Academy Awards walkway, and you have to pass between roped off squads of slavering photographers merely to gain access, it's a sure sign that priorities other than the strictly musical are driving an event.
