IN IPANEMA, a suburb of Rio de Janeiro, a pianist-singer-arranger-composer named Sergio Mendes conceived what is known today as Brasil '66. A hotter-than-hot recording sound in the States — and Senor Mendes has this week brought it to London for promotional activities.
