Shoes
John Tobler, Blank Space, 1979
AND DON'T forget that title – its not The Shoes, but simply the plural of the footwear without the definite article. There are four Shoes, and they emanate from a place called Zion, Illinois, and they line up like this: Gary Kelbe (vocals and guitar), Jeff Murphy (ditto), his brother John Murphy (vocals and bass) and Skip Meyer (drums). Gary, Jeff and John are the groups songwriters, and appears to have democracy down to a T – five songs each on their debut LP, Black Vinyl Shoes.
