Sneaker Pimps
Jim Irvin, MOJO, October 1996
THE SONG WAS CALLED 'Becoming X'. We gave it a turn on the office stereo, not expecting much. But, about a minute into the dark, pastoral kind of dance tune, a piano struck two gorgeous chords G minor suspended and B flat suspended, I'm told identical to those that open Sandy Denny's haunting 'Next Time Around'. Normally one might be mildly appalled and suspicious of an act ripping off someone as sacrosanct as Sandy, but this was obviously the work of fellow fans, like a coded call to the fraternity.
