St Etienne: Debut That's Alpha Oscar Kilo.
Simon Reynolds, Observer, The, 20 October 1991
On their delightful debut album, Foxbase Alpha, St Etienne mix contemporary house rhythms with the string-swept melodrama of Sixties pop. Amazingly, the creators of this exquisitely crafted sound, Bob Stanley and Pete Wiggs, are musical illiterates, who can't play any instruments except for rudimentary keyboard.
