Steely Dan: Countdown To Ecstasy
Steven X Rea, Music World, November 1973
THIS IS BASICALLY just a review of one song on Countdown To Ecstasy. I mean, the rest of the record is fine, the lyrics are quite good, tinged with sort of surreal rock & roll imagery, the music is tight (perhaps in some cases too tight) and although the songs each average around 4 to 5 minutes in length, they all have the fascinating quality of sounding like 2-3 minute rock numbers. But enough of this and hence to the nitty-gritty: 'The Boston Rag'.
