Stevie Ray Vaughan 1954-1990
John Swenson, Rolling Stone, 4 October 1990
STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN has died, and with him goes the spirit of Jimi Hendrix once again. Vaughan was linked to Hendrix throughout his playing life. To those who understood him, the reference was the ultimate compliment. Vaughan developed along his own lines, but he never wavered in paying tribute to Hendrix. He would tune his guitar to E flat, inviting comparisons to Hendrix almost as a kind of dare, and let rip the biggest sound since Jimi stalked the stage.
