STORIES IS a New York-based quartet which plays music with a strong kinship to British rock, yet lacks the ‘rank imitator’ brand of many a recent stateside combo. The keen admiration that the group bears for the sound that the Beatles and the Who carried one-half decade ago never quite surfaces, but stays on a subliminal level throughout Stories’ debut album, one of the most exciting records by any American group this year.
