'Summertime' Forever

IT'S EVERYWHERE. It's become part of the air we breathe. 'Summertime' certainly feels like it's been with us forever. One day this June, while making my documentary Searching For Summertime, I heard a busker knock out their battered guitar-and-vocals version of the song in a subway. Just a couple of hours later I caught another impromptu show. A man in the BBC canteen moaned, "Summertime…and the livin' is easy,"as the June rain tipped down.
