Sun Ra: Space Is The Place
Andy Gill, NME, 7 August 1982
Last week the legendary SUN RA, who claims to come from the planet Saturn, beamed down to earth to play two sell-out concerts at London's Venue. Now in his 70s, the cosmic big band leader has had a colourful and extraordinary career: he formed his own independent label in the mid-'50s, at the same time championed black pride and interplanetary thangs, and has recorded over 200 LPs. A busy man, it is said he has no time to sleep. ANDY GILL, his greatest fan, attempts to get a word in edgeways with Mr Ra.
