Early in 1970, Melody Maker asked Roger Waters what he thought of The Madcap Laughs, the debut solo album by his erstwhile Pink Floyd colleague Syd Barrett. "All the songs on this album are great," Waters commented. "Some of them are great — in capital letters. Syd is a genius."
