Talking Heads: Nine Heads Are Better Than Four

Don Snowden, Ampersand, December 1980

"I'M ALWAYS A little surprised at our success because I know we're a little unusual," David Byrne muses softly on the eve of the first Los Angeles performance of the new, nine-piece Talking Heads. "At the same time, I have this naive belief that if people do things that have conviction, other people can spot that and they're bound to be successful, to some extent. If we fail, it's because our intentions aren't clear."
