Tavares: Madame Butterfly (Capitol)
Simon Frith, Melody Maker, 7 April 1979
MADAME Butterfly opens with the familiar dance floor sounds brass riff, flowing strings punched out guitars, tightly strung percussion but this isn't really a disco album. It's a soul record, a cool, old-fashioned, satisfying example of a vocal art.
