Richard Riegel, Real Groove (New Zealand), April 1997
BACK IN OUR mid-1960s adolescence, my friend B. entertained a magnificently huge crush on Dave Davies of the Kinks. We were young Yanks in thrall to the fabled British Invasion, but the old sex roles prevailed. I granted B. her classic shrieking-GIRL response to the Brits in her massive Davies swoon, while I kept boy-quiet about my own concupiscent fantasies over the album-cover image of the Kinks' labelmate, Sandie Shaw.
