The Be Good Tanyas: Borderline, London, 19th March
Tim Clifford, Rock's Backpages, April 2002
TO DISPLAY delight at making music might sound an obvious and easy thing to do. This show by the Canadian trio of Frazey Ford, Samantha Parton and Trish Klein was a potent reminder of how rare it really is. I dont know whether youd call what the BGTs do country-tinged folk, folk-tinged country, roots or what, but it was infused with feeling and pure delight. From the infectiously catchy 'The Littlest Bird' to the haunting 'Rain and Snow', the trio managed to make a packed crowd believe we were all on some wonderfully informal back porch where making your own entertainment is the right and natural thing to do.
