The Beach Boys
David Dalton, Lenny Kaye, Cooper Square Books (reissue), 1999
IN THE BEGINNING... WERE THE BEACH BOYS. Under the avalanche of the English Invasion, the Psychedelic Apocalypse, supersonic guitars and flash, it is almost forgotten that this longest-lived of all rock groups was the true innovator of the new age of rock. Not only did they begin the revival of fifties R& B, their harmonies gave voice to a new generation and established the sense of community central to the whole of sixties rock.
