PETE BEST is the Beatle who got away. The drummer who was replaced by Ringo Starr just before the boys hit the big time. What kind of guy is this who spent over two years drumming up a storm with the boys in Hamburg, Germany, and back in Liverpool? Why did he leave? For the answers to these questions I took a trip to Merseyside to meet the fifth Beatle in person. There he is at the bottom right of the picture above.
