ONE OF the hardest jobs Ive ever had as a music writer – as a music fan – is defending the Cocteau Twins against people who think they were nothing more than fey, sub-Siouxsie and the Banshees gothlings with overly precious song titles and album sleeves. For me, the Cocteau Twins made some of the staggeringly lovely music that ever came out of the British Isles.
