THERE IS an aura of faded grace and decaying dignity about Crystal Palace, set upon the heights of Norwood in South London. Perhaps it stems from the ghosts of Victorian and Edwardian men of science and philosophy who haunt the place among the ruins of the old Great Exhibition of 1851.
