The Drifters: Under The Boardwalk

Bill Millar, The History of Rock, 1982

The Drifters are an institution. Very few vocal groups have remained popular for almost 30 years, and in an area notable for its lack of consistency the Drifters' longevity is almost without parallel. The skills of their producers and songwriters — from Jerry Wexler and Ahmet Ertegun in the Fifties to Roger Cook and Roger Greenaway in the Seventies — have enabled the group to develop new styles and to keep their career afloat for three decades.
