The Fleshtones: This Year's Authentic Embodiment of Rock 'n' Roll
Jon Young, Trouser Press, April 1982
A COMMON thread runs through all great rock 'n' roll, from Elvis Presley and Little Richard to Dave Edmunds and the Ramones. It's a sublime simplicity that agitates the feet and lifts the spirit, but a concrete definition is maddeningly elusive. Over the years imposters lacking the gut instinct have tried to pass themselves off as the genuine article, to no avail; some things just can't be faked. Rock 'n' roll naturals are a rarity even in the best of times, and should be prized accordingly. In 1982 New York City's Fleshtones seem to be shaping up as an authentic embodiment of r 'n' r.
