Back at the start of 2002 I wrote this essay for XTC and their management, partly because I wanted to do a book on the band, but also because I was very passionate about the disrepair their career was still in, even though their recent releases, 2000's Apple Venus Vol 1 and 2001's Wasp Star, had had the UK's music critics falling over themselves to praise the records and their makers.
