The Last Great American Adventurer: Jerome John Garcia 1942-1995
Tom Hibbert, Q, October 1995
On August 9, Jerry Garcia, leader of the Grateful Dead, the most successful live group of all time, died in a Californian rehab center. To many, his passing was the final curtain on the 60s alternative lifestyle, his thousands of die-hard fans mourning the loss of something between a father-figure and a faithful friend. Tom Hibbert recalls meeting Captain Trips, and sheds a tear for the band and the Deadheads.
