BACK IN OCTOBER, when the Police made their American debut at CBGB's, their sets were among the least-attended weekend shows that club had seen for some time. 'Roxanne' was just a popular cult import, and Outlandos D'Amour had not yet been released. But the band was a good one, playing a distinctive sound with flair and energy. I thought they might go far.
