LISTENING TO THE early Residents LPs as they came out through the '70s was always attended by the excitement of knowing you were going to hear something the like of which had never been heard before – which was odd, since from the beginning they specialised in cover versions of some very famous pop songs, songs so familiar they were already part of the furniture.
