When they released their eponymous first album in 1989, just in time to catch the loved-up baggy cult building into a national tidal wave, The Stone Roses certainly had it. The Stone Roses was retrospectively heralded as a watershed symbolising a new era in Brit rock. Punkish venom, fuck-you nonchalance and entrancing melodies meshed with hedonistic dance grooves. The '90s had arrived.
