THE TRIFFIDS fairly well defy convention; their seeming contradictions only make them stronger. They come from Perth, capital of raunch'n'roll and birthplace of the Scientists and the Hoodoo Gurus (sort of), but they are a very different kind of group — the Triffids are song-orientated; their sound is light, delicate and melodic at the top end, anchored by a tough, sinewy rhythm section at the bottom.
