SIFTING THROUGH a pile of So Solid Crew fanmail might be a disturbing experience for anyone worried about the state of the nation's spelling, but as an index of the vitality of British youth culture, these felt-tip love letters could hardly be more encouraging. From the general -"I was very confused as to which of you were there, but it was great anyway" to the very specific - "I don't know if you remember, but I was the girl rubbing your head" - they testify to the birth of a genuine pop phenomenon.
