AS RECENTLY AS January, Britain’s Ultravox — purveyors of highly stylized, often outré music alternately reminiscent of Pink Floyd, Brian Eno and Roxy Music — could have pictured themselves touring the dark side of the moon as easily as America. "We thought we were completely unknown here," vocalist John Foxx explains. "Our record company [Island] had us believing we could never be on the radio in America. They sent us tapes of American radio that were nothing but disco. Which is fine, I suppose, but certainly not what we’re about."
