Willy DeVille: It's De Ville Thing

Sylvie Simmons, Sounds, 13 August 1977

IT STARTED IN '71. Willy deVille, a black-Irish New Yorker, came to London in search of a band. None appeared. After a few frustrating months as a soloist he headed for San Francisco, formed the nucleus of Mink deVille with John Lee Hooker's drummer T.R. (Manfred) Allen Jnr and part-American Indian bassist Ruben Siguenza, and played anywhere and everywhere for 18 months before returning to play the New York circuit.
