SUN RECORDS HAS A SPECIAL PLACE IN the history – or, if you never took to Presley, the demonology – of popular music, and the recordings in his impeccably produced four-CD set, many of them made by transients or nonentities, have a spotlit showcase in the museum of rock ’n’ roll. Anyone with more than an average interest in blues or rockabilly will undoubtedly know this stuff, or at least know about it. Yes, listening to it like this is a surprising and illuminating experience.
