Perhaps you’re thinking it’s either premature or entirely unwarranted that a relative unknown whose sole claim to fame is a 1970 updating of Smiley Lewis’ ‘I Hear You Knockin’’ ( which he failed to follow with any subsequent hits) should be nominated to rock’s guitar outlaw pantheon in company with Elvis, Eddie Cochran, Buddy Holly, Gene Vincent, Keith Richard and, in recent years, perhaps only John Fogerty.
