The question with The Sweet has always been one of validity. In England, it was the struggle to become something more than the string of Chinn/Chapman instant teenhits. (It’s a battle that has yet to be conclusively won. Their post-Chinnichap work has really only proved their ability to maintain that teen audience; they’re still regarded with some suspicion by the dispensers of aesthetic validity.)
