Born in 1946, she made her first record at the age of 14, for Norrie Paramor at EMI: 'Don't Treat Me Like A Child' was a massive hit which shot Shapiro into the upper echelons of Brit pop – where she stayed, through two Number 1s (including 'Walking Back To Happiness'), until late 1962.
