The old speed shop It’s been a coupla decades since the throaty roar of finely-tuned, chopped and channelled street rods emanated from this old warehouse on Summer Avenue. Eventually, the Ford and Caddy thoughtfully left there by the original owners will just rust away. For now, it makes a mighty fine piece of public art, albeit one which perfectly mirrors Memphis’s strange attitude to its own cultural heritage. Maybe now that somebody from out of town’s noticed it, this site’ll get preserved. But don’t bank on it. (Photos: Nadia Freyther)
