THE LIFE of a rock and roll writer, as I have said all too often before, is not all sunshine and roses. The Friday night Slade was due to take New York by storm, for instance, Helen Reddy was scheduled to make her Carnegie Hall debut. Fitting that and everything else in was going to be murder.
