Albert King, 1923-1992
Robert Gordon, L.A. Weekly, 7 January 1993
ALBERT KING performed in overalls to the very end, even when he wore a tux. Like his music, King was urban but not ashamed of his rural roots. He played his string-bending, angular blues guitar (left-handed and upside down) in the tradition of T-Bone Walker and Blind Lemon Jefferson, yet with a contemporary style that was his own. He died in Memphis on December 21 from a massive heart attack; he was 69.
