IT WAS a strange kind of love song. The singer wore a shiny black jacket over a black shirt and black tie. Her blond hair was cut short and pointed skyward. She massaged her synthesizer, drawing out a droning, mechanical waltz. The giant screen behind her filled with a map of the United States and glowing neon clocks marking the time zones.
