Argent: First Get Yourself On The Telly!

Steve Turner, Cream, June 1972

WHATEVER GETS SAID about hit singles and Top Of The Pops, there's no denying that they still form the most powerful tonic that a British group can get off on. Take Argent for instance. They were a successful band doing the rounds and pulling in the crowds but, for some reason, they had trouble establishing their own identity without getting bogged down in their member's past lives. Also they'd never quite managed to showcase their true sound on an album. To the larger part of the music listening public they were a name, a photograph and something to do with the Zombies.
