IT MAY BE impossible for the outsider to decode the arcane rituals which accompany a performance by the Art Ensemble of Chicago, and which the group presumably intend to embody the culture of their African ancestors, but on Monday evening, no less than at their two London appearances in previous years, it was easy to be swept away by the mysterious chemistry created by these extraordinary musicians.
