Ashford and Simpson: Hammersmith Odeon, London

Simon Witter, New Musical Express, 22 June 1985

THE WORD 'classy' perfectly sums up this show. As in superior, stylish, staid and conservative. The A&S seal of musical quality guaranteed a packed Odeon, generously sprinkled with famous faces. Top notch PA, soundman and musicians together created a horn-slashed, throbbing mousse of album-perfect sound which — coupled with a repertoire of stone soul classics and the heterosexually reassuring illusion of marital bliss — satisfied all comers, and regurgitated a glowingly happy audience into the night.
