ONE OF THE most underrated qualities in music is doing one thing very well. We instinctively cherish the wayward souls, the confounders of expectation, the people for whom each album is a step into surprising new territory. By comparison the artists who choose to painstakingly develop a single style album by album, barely deviating from their path, seem like stolid tortoises who are just too unimaginative to consider the alternatives.
