Bertrand Tavernier on Round Midnight

Barney Hoskyns, New Musical Express, 6 December 1986

THE DIRECTOR of Round Midnight is extremely un-Bebop in appearance. His supine bearing and serene features suggest a cross between Roland Barthes and Claude Chabrol, and in the plush surroundings of the St. James' Club he couldn't be much further removed from the street-cred of the hardcore jazz musician.
