Big Star Biography

IN SEPTEMBER, 1972 Ardent Records released Big Star's first album, Number One Record. The group consisted of Alex Chilton – guitar, keyboards, and vocals, Chris Bell – guitar, and vocals, Andy Hummel – bass guitar, and Jody Stephens, drums. Bell and Chilton wrote most of the songs with one contribution from Hummel. The album received incredible reviews for a new act and was described as being from the same school as the Byrds, Badfinger, and Todd Rundgren.
