Black Country Communion: Victoria Park, London E3

David Sinclair, The Times, 26 July 2011

THE ANGLO-AMERICAN "SUPERGROUP" Black Country Communion began their British tour with a muscular performance towards the end of the closing day of the High Voltage festival. This annual gathering of the hard rock tribes, amid the leafy parkland of East London, is an event where age, tradition and leather trousers are respected and even new bands tend to come equipped with a ready-made sense of history. Given their past associations with Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin, the four musicians who comprise Black Country Communion were in their element. Never mind that their second album, 2 — a collection assembled as hastily as its title suggests — has yet to reach the Top 20. Glenn Hughes (vocals and bass), Jason Bonham (drums), Joe Bonamassa (guitar and vocals) and Derek Sherinian (keyboards) behaved and were greeted as all-conquering heroes.
